ETSI releases a video of the first ETSI NFV interoperability test event, NFV Plugtests™, hosted by the 5TONIC lab at IMDEA Networks Institute in Madrid (Spain) at the start of the year. A great success to help NFV move forward!
ETSI has just released the results of its two-week NFV Plugtests™ event that took place from 23 January to 3 February at the 5TONIC laboratory in Madrid, Spain. For features such as network service on-boarding, instantiation and termination, 98% of the interoperability tests succeeded. For more complex operations like scaling and network service updates, very encouraging initial results were observed. The test plan, overall results and lessons learnt during the Plugtests are fed back to ETSI NFV ISG.
Arturo Azcorra, Director of IMDEA Networks Institute and Full Professor at University Carlos III of Madrid, is interviewed, together with other ICT experts, on the topic of 5G communications, at the program «World Ecommerce» of the Spanish radio station «Radio Internacional de España».

The open research and innovation laboratory 5TONIC announces that Luz Wavelabs is the proud winner of the First 5TONIC 5G Start-up Competition. Luz Wavelabs is a small Spanish technological company focused on bringing to the market a new technology based on millimeter and Terahertz (THz) waves, which will allow next generation high data rate wireless communications, one of the key requirements of future 5G communications.
The FlexRAN platform provides a virtualized reference implementation of LTE Advanced RAN (Radio Access Network) with a modular eNB (eNode-B) reference software stack that operates on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware in combination with FPGA hardware accelerators that support specific network functions. The specific FlexRAN Platform being installed in the 5TONIC open 5G Lab runs on Artesyn's MaxCore(tm) HA platform, a high availability version of its microserver platform for NFV/SDN and carrier cloud networks. In the following weeks, Telefónica and other 5TONIC partners will test and validate the viability of virtualized implementations of current and future RANs for both functionality and performance.
